Lil B calls his album “I’m Gay”?

In recent Hip Hop news one of XXL’s 2011 freshman Lil’ B has announced that he is calling his new album “I’m Gay”. Lil B has come out and said that even though he is calling his album I’m Gay, he is extremely heterosexual. The controversial rapper made the announcement that he would title his album I’m Gay after his performance at The Coachella Festival earlier this month. Since Lil B has revealed the name of his new album, it has sparked a lot controversy and homophobia in the Hip Hop industry. GLAAD released a statement over the album title stating that the organization hoped Lil B was sincere in his attempt to be an “ally” of the LGBT community. “I’m an ally to the people, and yes, I am an ally,” Lil B said in a new interview with New York Magazine. “I am a man that loves women, but I am an ally. I am not interested in men, but I do support men and women and any choices that they make that are positive.”

I support Lil B wanting and trying to be different and wanting to support the gay community but I feel like this was only a stunt to gain money. I feel like Lil B is only interested in getting money and knows that by calling his album I’m Gay, he will only gain sponsors and a new fan base. I guess only time will tell and we’ll be able to see what direction this takes his career in.

Soulja Boy is making a mini-movie?

Soulja Boy has recently announced that he will be making a mini-movie to accompany his newly released mixtape called juice.  His Mixtape and mini-movie are based off the 1992 hit Juice that stared  Tupac Shakur, Omar Epps, Jermaine “Huggy” Hopkins and Khalil Kain. Soulja Boy says he is finishing the movie and that he hopes to premiere on BET later this year. “My close friend and I was like ‘man I want to do a mini-movie’ and so we got the budget together,” Soulja Boy said. “We were in pre-production and people reached out and wanted to be a part of the movie.”  The 45-minute film will be directed by Dale “Rage” Resteghini, who shot the video for Soulja Boy’s “Kiss Me Through the Phone.”

I think this Movie will interesting to see because fans will be able to see soulja boy in a whole new light . This was a good idea for Soulja. We will just have to wait and see if the movie will be as good as he plans on it being.

Gucci Mane goes to JAIL….AGAIN!!!

On Friday April 8th, Rapper Gucci Mane was arrested again for battery charges. Gucci Mane is accused of pushing a woman out of a moving hummer because of a dispute that he had with the woman.  Gucci was only charged with a misdemeanor count of battery but because of this altercation he might recieve a longer jail sentence because of violating his probation. The rapper spent time at the mental ward of Anchor Hospital in January, after he was accused of violating his probation for an incident in November of 2010.

I feel that rapper Gucci Mane, born  Radric Davis, is beginning to go crazy. If he’s not in jail he’s most likely getting icecream cones tattooed on his face which in any society is not normal. I also feel like whats the purpose of sending someone to jail if they are going to commit crimes as soon as they are released. If Gucci Mane wants to continue to have a rapping career he needs to take some serious time to figure out the direction of his career before he no longer has one.

The NAACP Underfire!

In the past couple days the NAACP has been under attack for the  lineup of Hip-Hop performers included to take part in the 42nd Annual NAACP Awards . The line up consists of  artists like Jay-Z, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Diddy and Dirty Money, B.o.B. and others will perform, present or have been nominated to receive awards.

Numerous people like Reverend Delman Coates of Mt. Ennon Baptist Church in Clinton, Maryland, who are involved with the NAACP feel that it is blasphemy that the NAACP honor such artists. Rev. Coates said, “It is a complete outrage that the NAACP and some of this country’s largest corporations would endorse artists that degrade women, use the “N” word, and promote values that are antithetical to the goals and aspirations of most Americans,” Rev. Coates told AllHipHop.com in a statement.

He continued to say “Lyrical content, not commercial success should be the standard by which such nominations and sponsorships are given. At a time when we have witnessed social and political progress in America, it is disheartening to see established civil rights organizations and leading American corporations promote some of the most stereotypical and offensive images and messages in the popular culture.”

I have to say that i agree with some of what Rev. Coates said. Certain Artists in today’s hip hop industry shine a bad light on hip hop. I completely agree that artists like this have no business being awarded especially at an NAACP award ceremony. The NAACP has done a lot for African Americans and helped them get to where we are today. By the NAACP awarding certain people that use degrading words and life styles to make a profit, is basically like supporting the exact things that where used to keep African Americans from socially suceeding. What do you think?

Kanye West’s Video Causes Seizures?

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about rapper/producer Kanye West who is taking the game by storm. Even though nobody is close to taking Kanye out of his spot, negative energy is never to far from Kanye. In recent news Kanye is under fire for allegedly borrowing the animated intro to his new video All of the Lights, but there could also be health effects from watching the video

An Epilepsy group from the UK called, Epilepsy Action, sent Kanye’s video to Cambridge Research Systems to be analyzed by one of their machines to see if the video causes seizures. “This machine looks at whether video footage is likely to cause seizures,” Epilepsy Action said in a statement. “We have today had confirmation that it contains material that may cause seizures in some people with photosensitive epilepsy.”

Epilepsy action has pulled video from the internet and television and are continuing to try to make an effort to ban the video worldwide. They have even contacted Kanye’s agent but have not yet got a response.

This is the All of the lights video…

NICKI MINAJ vs. LIL KIM BEEF!!!

If you haven’t been paying attention to these rappers in resent news well then you better start. Their beef” has reached new heights in the past week when Lil Kim released her Black Friday video. This track Black Friday is dedicated solely to making Nicki Minaj look bad and insists on bringing Nicki down. This video even has a Nicki Minaj clone that is attempting to replicate Lil Kim. The clone references classic Kim videos like “Crush On You,” off Lil Kim’s debut album Hard Core.

So far through this beef Nicki Minaj has been mature through out the whole thing. She only responded with a couple of  giggles over twitter and a few punch lines in a few songs but has not made a whole song dedicated to the dissing of Lil Kim.

This behavior is historically typical of Lil Kim. Kim has had beef with other artists, most notably Foxy Brown, with whom she never reconciled. In the end this whole beef is doing more Lil Kim’s career more than anything because before this beef occurred, Lil Kim hadn’t released any music in years.

This is the Black Friday Video Lil Kim released.

Is WorldStarHipHop.com really Hip Hop?

In the world of Hip Hop there is always a new craze. More recently there has been a website that has caught a lot of buzz claiming to be the spark that hip hop has been needing. This website is called WorldStarHipHop.com. WordStarHipHop is a very popular video site, but is WorldStarHipHop really all about Hip Hop. WorldSTarHipHop.com started out as a video site where people could watch videos of different things that were going on in the hip hop industry like video releases, interviews, etc. Today WorldStarHiphop has street fight videos, videos promoting sex tapes, and other numerous videos that have nothing to do with hip hop, putting hip hop into a bad light.

The maker of WorldStarHipHop Lee Quinn O’Denat  says, “I try to portray the good, the bad and the ugly – that’s what I try to portray. It’s not just good, good, good. Hip Hop is a culture – a lifestyle. It’s not just a Black thing or an inner-city thing. It’s for anyone that can feel it in’em. It’s Hip Hop. It’s just swag.” I have to say that I don’t agree. Even thought videos of fights and sexual exploitation are sometimes entertaining and interesting to watch I feel like they have nothing to do with the hip hop culture.

This is a link of a video that was posted on WorldStarHipHop.com that supports the negative light that this website puts Hip Hop in. http://www.worldstarhiphop.com/videos/video.php?v=wshh5Q654TRDF1Y8v23D

Either way WorldStarHipHop.com is making Hip Hop look bad. Do you think WorldStar is makes hip hop look bad? Take the pole below and see what others think!
